Get to know the estuary of Bilbao tasting typical gastronomy
We will start the journey sailing along the Abra in Bilbao. As soon as we leave the Getxo Kaia estuary we will see the majestic villas and palaces that populate the Neguri district and the Zugazarte promenade. We will raise our sails and pass by wave breaks to then enjoy the silent pleasure of sailing before beginning our journey up the Ría de Bilbao.
In this journey full of contrasts we will first find the Portugalete Muelle de Hierro (Iron Quay) and the fabulous Puente Colgante (Hanging Bridge) of Bizkaia, designed by Alberto Palacios and built by one of the most outstanding students of the French architect Gustave Eiffel, famous throughout the world for the tower that bears his name.
The sensation of sailing through such corners where you can still see vestiges of our industrial architecture, shipyards, old factories such as the Zorroza workshops at the river mouth of the Cadagua, the "Harinera" (Flour factory) or the river mouth of the Galindo evoke a past that is not too distant and make us imagine a modern and promising future that already makes it appearance on the bow.
To celebrate the moment, we will uncork a tasty txakolí produced nearby and we will also offer you some Rioja alavesa wine with which we will irrigate some delicate anchovies in salt from Bermeo and some excellent piquillo peppers, bonito is a must and Idiazabal cheeses with local nuts in the boat of a good Basque and some other surprises from our fine local gastronomy. After dessert we will also have a coffee and if you want you can accompany this with a sloe liqueur, the famous Patxarán, to finish enjoying the river descent that takes us back to the Getxo Kaia Port Marina. And from here we will continue enjoying the town.
